Man dies in Tampa shooting, deputies say

TAMPA, Fla. — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly shooting that happened in Tampa on Monday night.

According to deputies, they responded to a call of shots fired near the intersection of East Sligh Avenue and North 50th Street around 9:30 p.m.

Deputies say they found two vehicles at the scene that appeared to be involved in a crash and one man who had been shot. According to the sheriff's office, that man was taken to Tampa General, where he died a short time later.

The victim's identity has not been released at this time.

Detectives believe the shooter was in one of the cars involved and ran away from the scene. Two other people suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Detectives believe they found another location at the Avesta Del Río apartment complex that could be connected to the incident.

"We know there were several witnesses to this crime and we're asking anyone with information to come forward," said Sheriff Chad Chronister.
