For a lot of us, we're still using Zoom to communicate and have meetings.

That's been the same for a local New Tampa Girl Scout troop, everything's been moved to virtual.

"One thing we strive for as leaders is instill in the next generation is to support the community. You have to come back and support the community," explains Colleen Kurtz.

However, this weekend they're going to be doing an in-person event to give back to the community.

"We're doing a drive-thru food drive and only a few of us are working it and so we're able to help our community but also maintaining distance and wearing masks and everything," says Olivia Kurtz, a student at Freedom High School but also a local Girl Scout.

The girls will be having the socially distanced food drive this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the West Meadows Club House in New Tampa.

They'll be collecting the non-perishable food from cars and taking them to the Feeding Tampa Bay truck to benefit those struggling with food insecurity.

It's one of the first events the Scouts are holding in-person since the pandemic began.
