A late night ceiling collapse left seven people without displaced on Wednesday night in Sun City.

Around midnight, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to the Aston Gardens Retirement Community located in the 220 Block of Courtyard Blvd in Sun City.

When Firefighters arrived on scene they reported four condo units with ceiling damage. Firefighters evacuated the entire building and continued their investigation.

The investigation found that a contractor has been working on the roof of the building, and Wednesday evening’s storms lead to water entering the attic. That water saturated insulation and drywall ceiling of the four units, causing the drywall to collapse inside the condos.

Three other condo units inside the building were evacuated out of an abundance of caution.

In all seven condo housing units, seven residents inside the same building had to be evacuated. The complex and contractor have made lodging arrangements for the displaced residents. There are no reported injuries.
