The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said in a press release they will enhance their initiative to combat gun violence during the 4th of July weekend.
The sheriff's department says celebratory gunfire remains a serious problem in many communities, especially for the fourth.
Deputies will utilize the ShotSpotter gunfire alerts and analysis solution to detect and locate gunfire incidents and gather gunfire intelligence to fight crime and violence in Hillsborough County.
The system uses microphones around the county to pick up sound waves from a gun shot, and it pings that location.
The department said this solution provides real-time gunshot location data, enabling informed decisions for faster and more accurate emergency response.
