Hillsborough Co. officials conduct death investigation of inmate housed at Falkenburg Road Jail

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Hillsborough County officials are conducting a death investigation surrounding the passing of an inmate.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said on Dec. 1, inmate Marcus Antonio Young, 33, was involved in a medical incident when he fell while walking through the visitation area to visit a relative.

Young fell forward and hit his head on the floor. He was immediately transported to Tampa General Hospital where he remained until Dec. 3.

Surveillance video and interviews with personnel and other inmates said there was no interference by anyone else when he fell.

When Young was discharged from Tampa General after treatment, he was then transported to Falkenburg Road Jail infirmary for further observation.

On Dec. 7, Young was transported to Brandon Regional Hospital when he lost consciousness. He was later pronounced dead.

HCSO detectives interviewed other inmates and others assigned to the infirmary.

The investigation remains active pending the autopsy by the Medical Examiner's Office.

Young was in custody on charges of sexual battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and armed imprisonment.
