A Gibsonton man was arrested on Saturday, accused of stabbing a family dog following an argument with his father.
At about 4 p.m., Hillsborough County deputies were called to 10013 California St., where they learned that Robert Abbot Jr., 34, got into an argument with his father.
During the argument, Abbot Jr. reportedly got a knife and stabbed the family's pit bull mix dog several times, causing severe injuries to the dog.
When deputies got there, they discovered Abbot Jr. had barricaded himself inside a bathroom with the knife, and repeatedly refused commands to exit the bathroom and surrender.
After several minutes of negotiations, he allowed deputies inside and was taken into custody without further incident.
Hillsborough County Animal Services responded and arranged emergency veterinary services for the injured family dog.
Abbot Jr. faces charges of aggravated animal cruelty and resisting arrest without violence.
