TAMPA, Fla. — A single mother of a 16-year-old boy is getting help from a local non-profit since escaping her domestic violence abuser.

Charyetta, whose last name we're keeping confidential for safety reasons, came to the CDC or Corporation to Develop Communities, Inc. of Tampa last July.

Her counselor helped her set goals, which included turning her temporary job into a permanent position.

On Monday, the CDC will present Charyetta with a "new to her" vehicle to get her to and from her new job as part of the "Road to Independence" program, a non-profit partnership funded by the United Way.
