HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A traffic crash involving two Hillsborough County deputies had portions of U.S. Highway 301 shut down in the Wimauma area on Friday.

The sheriff's office had the highway shut down north of the crash at Ayersworth Glen Boulevard until just after 6 p.m.

Around 1:30 p.m. authorities say the driver of a Kia Sportage stopped in the road while driving southbound. The driver of a Honda CRV, who was behind the Kia, attempted to swerve out of the way but struck the back of the Kia.

Deputies say the Kia was pushed left across the double yellow line and into a Ford Taurus, which was driven by an HCSO detective. An HCSO deputy was also in the passenger seat of the vehicle, the sheriff's office says.

The detective and deputy were taken to Tampa General Hospital for minor injuries. The driver of the Kia was taken to St. Joseph's South with minor injuries.
