SUN CITY CENTER, Fla. — A coin worth over $1,800 was left in a Salvation Army kettle in Sun City Center.
Captain Andy Miller says the coin was left anonymously in a kettle at a Publix in Sun City Center. They originally thought the coin was only worth $50.
After further evaluation, the coin was revealed as an American Eagle gold coin worth $1,850.
Captain Miller said last year someone left an ancient gold coin in a kettle in South Tampa, but this coin is different.
The Salvation Army says people are being generous but they still are in need of volunteers. They said there are significantly fewer people signing up this year.
The demand is greater this year, the Salvation Army said.
