BRANDON, Fla. — A 6-year-old was killed in Brandon on Friday night after falling out of a vehicle and getting run over, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies say it happened around 7: 15 p.m. at 11029 Causeway Boulevard. The unidentified child was run over after opening the vehicle's back passenger side door and falling out, according to deputies.
The driver told authorities he was making a slow turn to head south on Providence Lakes Boulevard when the incident occurred. The driver said he didn't know at the time the child had been run over.

The driver stopped the vehicle to check on the child, who was alert. When it appeared the child suffered no noticeable injuries, deputies say the driver placed the child back in the vehicle and continued driving.
According to a press release, the driver and child are related. However, sheriff's officials declined to release the names of the child and driver due to Marsy's Law.
When the driver realized the child had lost consciousness, he called 911 and pulled over at Grand Isle Drive and Gornto Lake Road.
Paramedics arrived and rushed the unresponsive child to Brandon Regional Hospital, where the child was later pronounced dead.
No impairment or foul play is suspected in the incident, the release said.
No charges have been filed. The investigation continues.
