HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a serious crash Tuesday morning that killed three people and injured another.
Deputies say it happened at around 5 a.m. the intersection of Sheldon Road and Linebaugh Avenue in Westchase. All lanes are closed except for southbound Sheldon Road.
According to the sheriff's office, a 2020 silver Chevy Malibu ran a red light and got hit by another vehicle. The Malibu, which was traveling northbound on Sheldon Road, was hit by a 2017 white Nissan Altima that was traveling eastbound on West Linebaugh, according to a press release.
The impact caused the Malibu to lose control and hit a pole. Authorities say the three people inside were ejected and died at the scene.
The driver of the Altima was taken to St. Joseph's with serious injuries.
"We extend our deepest sympathy to the families of these three victims who lost their lives in this terrible accident," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "I urge all drivers to use caution on the roadways and obey traffic laws to avoid these tragic losses."
