RIVERVIEW, Fla. — A crash killed two teenagers in Hillsborough County Wednesday evening.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of the crash a little before 4:45 p.m.

Deputies say a black 2-door Honda, traveling northbound on Valley Dale Drive, ran a red light at the intersection of Progress Boulevard. A Ford F-250 pick-up truck going westbound on Progress Boulevard could not stop in time and struck the Honda.

The crash killed two people inside the Honda, an 18-year-old driver and a 15-year-old passenger.

The driver of the pickup truck was not hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.

"We extend our deepest condolences to the families of these young victims that are facing a parent's worst nightmare," said Sheriff Chad Chronister in a press release. "This is the third traffic accident this month where teens have lost their lives. We urge parents to talk to their teens about safety on the roadways and remind our young drivers to be cautious and fully aware of the responsibility that lies in their hands the moment they get behind the wheel. One bad decision can lead to tragedy."
