A homeless man was arrested Thursday morning for collecting money from passing drivers on the side of I-4 eastbound and Highway 579.

Robert Shawn had a sign that read "Homeless vet, please help. God Bless."

He later admitted he was not a veteran and he only wrote it on his sign to collect more money.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office charged him with fraud false statement and soliciting while misrepresenting military uniform medals or insignia.

According toFlorida Statutes 817.312 it is a felony of the third degree for someone to misrepresent himself as a member of the United States Military while soliciting for charitable contributions.
