Valrico home in senior retirement community shot up early Friday morning in a 'targeted' event

Two quiet, peaceful Valrico neighborhoods are the center of a law enforcement investigation after unknown suspects shot up homes with people inside.

The shootings happened minutes and about a mile apart from one another, around 3:30 in the morning on Friday.

“I’m still shaken by it. It’s very, very upsetting,” said Vicky Joyce who lives in senior retirement community on Big Pine Road in Valrico.

Joyce and her husband, Stan, were asleep when a barrage of gunfire woke them up.

The whole front of their house is littered with bullet holes including the front window, the garage, and even their car inside the garage.

“It’s just terrifying really, to see what could have happened,” Stan Joyce said.

Investigators said the shooting was not random, but are not saying who the intended target is.

A car parked in the driveway next to Joyce’s also got shot up.

“I couldn’t beige where I was. It was like a bad dream,” said Connie Clark, who lives across the street.

She can’t shake the image of her grand daughter doing cartwheels down the same street that on Friday morning was littered with shell casings.

“It shouldn’t happen and I’m mad. I’m really bad that someone has invaded us like that,” she said.

Detectives believe the shooting is connected with the shooting that occurred minutes earlier on Preston Wood Drive also in Valrico.

Investigators said two suspects wearing hoodies shot up that house.

Late Monday, the sheriff’s office released a photo of a possible getaway car, but so far no arrests have been made.
