WAUCHULA, Fla. — A 14-year-old is charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting at three Hardee County deputies back in November of 2020.

The Hardee County Sheriff says the 14-year-old burglarized multiple houses near Vandolah Road after escaping from the Lakeside Neurologic rehabilitation center in Wauchula.

When Hardee County deputies confronted the boy he allegedly opened fire at them. The deputies returned fire and hit him at least once.

The boy has been released from the hospital and is charged with three counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, theft of a firearm, and armed burglary.

He has been transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

The Florida Dept. of Law Enforcement investigated the shooting and cleared all three deputies to return to work.
