A 54-year-old man is accused of pepper spraying a man during a break-in.

Patrick Brill, of 729 Inverie Drive in Inverness, is charged with burglary with battery.

According to an arrest affidavit, Citrus County deputies were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. on May 17 to a home in the 5400 block of East Tangelo Lane.

Deputies say the family inside the home awoke to Brill standing in their living room.  He reportedly gained access through an unsecured side door.

Brill was a former acquaintance of the family, deputies say.

Once inside the home, deputies say Brill awoke a man sleeping on the couch and then pepper sprayed him in the face.

Due to the commotion, other family members awoke and ran to the living room where they spotted Brill, deputies say.  They recognized him and immediately told him to get out, an arrest affidavit states.

Following the confrontation, Brill took off in a 2004 Crown Victoria.

Deputies say they found Brill at his home and during questioning he admitted to breaking into the home and pepper spraying at least one person.

Brill is being held on $25,000 bond.
