HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — A rural Hernando County neighborhood is plagued with people using it as an illegal dumping ground for garbage.

People like living in NE Hernando County because it's quiet and beautiful, but they don't like that people keep dumping their trash illegally alongside the road.

"It’s extremely frustrating," said Gayle Keough who lives in Ridge Manor Estates.

Beer bottles, oil buckets, and empty anti-freeze containers are just some of the garbage dumped onto a roadway off of Cornerstone Rd. in the Ridge Manor Estates area.

"A few months ago it was a load of shingles that had been taken off of a house," said Keough. "It makes me angry because there’s no respect."

Despite homemade signs pleading with people to not dump their trash, six buckets full of used motor oil were left in the grass just down the road, making the problem even more concerning.

"All of this stuff goes into the ground and then it goes into our water," said Keough.

We reached out to the county who says they have received a complaint and will be coming out to clean the trash in the area. They say they will also be installing signs warning people they will be fined for illegal dumping.

To report illegal dumping the county says to call code enforcement at 352-754-4056 and give them specific details as to where it’s happening.
