SPRING HILL, Fla. — The mother charged with murder for leaving her 9-month-old son in a hot car back in August had deputies called on her months earlier for leaving her children in the car unattended.

An incident report from June 23, 2018, says deputies were called after two children were left in a car outside of a gas station in Spring Hill.

The report says they found the vehicle belonged to Cami Moyer who was inside the gas station “playing with the quarter machines for about ten minutes."

The report says the air was running in the car and the children were asleep and seemed to be in good condition.

The deputy said he warned Moyer about dangers of leaving children in a car and notified DCF.
Moyer told the deputy “It will never happen again.”

But it did happen again, less than two months later, resulting in the death of Moyer’s 9-month-old son Keyton O’Callaghan.

In Moyer's arrest affidavit, she told deputies that she left the children in the car on the morning of August 17 while she went inside to shower for 45 minutes. She said the car was running with the air conditioner on and she had just put two gallons of gas in the car.

Eric O'Callaghan, the children’s father, tells a different story. He says Moyer was supposed to meet him with the kids the night before in Tampa but she never showed up. O’Callaghan says Moyer sounded “panicky” when he talked to her at 1 a.m. He says she promised to pick him up but she never did.

O’Callaghan says he eventually got a ride to Spring Hill and arrived at Moyer's home around 11 a.m. and that’s when he found baby Keyton in the hot car and began CPR until emergency crews arrived, but it was too late.

Cami Moyer was arrested for murder and other neglect charges on October 9, she has an arraignment set for Oct. 18, at 9 a.m. at the Hernando County Courthouse.
