HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. — "I hope I get hired so I can get back on my feet," said James Warren who is applying for a job.
Warren says starting over in his 50’s hasn’t been easy. He says he and his wife fell on hard times and are currently living with his kids.
"You don’t expect at this age to be living with your kids," said Warren.
But he heard about the Brooksville manufacturing company Barrette that is hiring 43 new positions.
Hernando County Commissioners just approved a more than $239,620 incentive package for Barrette to make their building one-third of the size bigger and create more jobs.
"They’re definitely one of the larger manufacturers in the area," said Teri Nichols of Spherion Staffing Services.
Spherion does all the hiring for Barrette Outdoor Living, known in Brooksville for their brand Alumi-Guard, making all kinds of fences.
"Their starting wage even on a temporary wage through us is higher than most manufacturers that we work with," said Nichols.
Starting at $11-12 an hour with the opportunity to make $18 an hour if hired for one of their full-time openings.
"Anything’s good, especially if you don’t have a job," said Warren.
The county’s mission is to attract and expand businesses to help the community grow and prosper. Which is what Warren is hoping will happen for his family.
"We could get back to where we want to be in life," said Warren.
