CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. -- Deputies in Citrus County have identified remains found in a trash can.
The Citrus County Sheriff said the body is that of Ryan McClellan. The 33-year-old was reported missing in September.
On Saturday, investigators responded to a wooded lot of American Avocet Point and discovered the can with skeletal remains of a small framed male that was wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
Neighbor Lynn Trotter says she noticed the trash can left in the wooded area back in September. She said, "I just thought the berry pickers might have left a trash can out in the woods."
Trotter says she's devastated for the family of McClellan, "I feel sorry for the family. My thoughts and prayers are with them."
Investigators do not know who left the remains in the area, but say there was upper body trauma and this is being treated as a murder investigation.
