WEEKI WACHEE, Fla. — Detectives in Hernando County are investigating a home invasion that ended in a murder-suicide early Saturday morning.

Deputies were called to a Glen Lakes home just after 6 a.m. They say a man who used to live at the home forced his way in and shot his estranged wife before taking his own life.

According to the sheriff's office, the couple either recently separated or divorced. The husband was living in a home in Spring Hill while the wife remained at the Glen Lakes home.

Someone inside the home called 911 and said they were hiding in a closet with another person after the man broke in and started shooting.

Deputies arrived and found a front glass door broken. They entered the home and "immediately observed evidence of a crime," the sheriff's office says.

The 911 caller and other person hiding were taken safely out of the home.

The sheriff's office is withholding the names of the victim and suspect, citing Marsy's Law.
