A Hernando County nurse and medical assistant are accused of stealing $10,000 in medical fees by treating patients and pocketing the money for themselves.
Karen Kelly-Connor and Bridget Bullock were arrested Friday on charges on charges that included organized fraud, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
Dr. Gaurav Malhotra reported the alleged theft by Kelly-Connor, a nurse practitioner, and Bullock, a medical assistant, deputies said. Both women are his former employees.
They are accused of accepting 23 new patients and, after treating them, requiring the patients to pay in cash, deputies said. The money was taken over an eight month period and, deputies said, the suspects concealed it by destroying records.
Kelly-Connor also forged the doctor’s signature, deputies said, and passed forged prescriptions to patients.
