TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam is releasing a policy paper on issues ranging from immigration to hurricanes and the opioid crisis.
Putnam is announcing the policy positions at a Tampa news conference Thursday.
Much of what’s outlined in the document reinforces current policy, including Florida’s mandatory minimum prison sentences and truth in sentencing laws.

But new ideas include creating a drug czar to coordinate local, state and federal efforts to fight opioid abuse and creating minimum quality standards for sober homes.
Putnam also proposes that every state agency with uniformed law enforcement work with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to deputize officers to enforce immigration law.
Putnam is facing U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis in the August primary. Republican Gov. Rick Scott is leaving office due to term limits.
