Pedaling for Parkinson's expands in Tampa Bay

Posted

A YMCA program helping those with Parkinson's disease is expanding in the Tampa Bay area.

Pedaling for Parkinson's is now at 4 Tampa Bay YMCA locations.

A national study found indoor cycling can decrease the symptoms of the disease by nearly 35%.

The Tampa YMCA first started Pedaling for Parkinson's back in 2016 and members say they're seeing a difference.

"Whenever you come here, you could be down. You have to push yourself to keep moving but when you finish, you're on a high. It's been wonderful," says Judy Smith.

The one-hour indoor class is free with a Y membership. But, if you're not a member it's free for the first 8 weeks. To participate, you have been 30-75 years old and be diagnosed with Idiopathic Parkinson's disease.
