The former Business Office Manager of a Hillsborough County nursing home is facing charges for stealing tens of thousands of dollars from residents.

Investigators for the Office of Attorney General say 37-year-old Jill Spohn diverted more than $56,000 from residents at the Opis Fairway Oaks Center.

According to the arrest warrant, Spohn targeted two residents who paid their bills in cash.

"I got a receipt every time I paid the bill and there was no problem," Michael Foran said. His mother moved into the facility in 2009. She was listed as one of the victims in the warrant.

"It's despicable," he said.

Nobody with the company would speak to us about the investigation.

According to the warrant, the scheme started in 2010. Spohn was suspended in 2013 and later fired for the suspicious of mishandling money. During the duration of the scam, she was the only person handling patient billing, according to the warrant.

Since being let go, Spohn got a job at another nursing home in Tarpon Springs, Tarpon Bayou Center. She was terminated after the arrest.
