MILWAUKEE, Wis. — A Wisconsin bus driver is being hailed as a hero after she didn't hesitate to stop and run to the rescue of a barefoot baby walking alone on a freeway overpass.

Irena Ivic saw the baby boy walking alone in freezing temperatures next to a busy road around 8 a.m., the Milwaukee County Transit System said. He was wearing just a onesie and a diaper. MCTS later learned the baby is less than a year old.

Ivic brought the freezing infant onto her bus and called for help. A passenger can be seen getting up and giving her coat to Ivic for the little boy, who quickly fell asleep in his rescuer's arms. He was later reunited with his father, MCTS said.

Police officers, firefighters and transit security officers came to the scene. The baby was left outside by his mother, who may have been suffering from a mental health crisis, according to MCTS.

MCTS drivers have found nine lost or missing children in recent years, according to their website.
