It wasn't a call police get every day--

Albuquerque police officers were investigating a stolen vehicle, when they found themselves trying to save a choking puppy.

Inside a Kicks 66 gas station in New Mexico, Albuquerque PD officers dropped everything to help a puppy in trouble.

A woman was in panic and waved the officers down.

"She was really distressed about it," said store employee Matthew Benavidez. "She was crying a lot.

The puppy was limp and it was unclear whether or not it was breathing at all. Officers looked in its mouth, pushed on its belly and patted its back, doing everything they could to save it.

Eventually the puppy did seem to start feeling better in what witnesses said was nerve-racking to watch.

"They put that aside and went and helped for a little puppy," Benavidez said. "It was you know a blessing that the cops were here."

One of the officers had previously been honored a couple of weeks ago for buying groceries for a woman in need.
