Customers of Cricket Wireless were having trouble making calls and sending text messages Friday evening as the provider faced nationwide outages. The outages continued into early Saturday morning.

"We are aware of a service issue affecting some customers & are working quickly to resolve it. We apologize for this inconvenience," the company said in a statement to Scripps National. A company spokesperson would not say when the company is expecting to restore service nor was it able to say if it would credit customers.

The outage was first reported around 5 p.m. Eastern on Friday. As of 1 a.m. Eastern on Saturday, service had not been restored to customers. After nearly eight hours without service, thousands of users went to social media to display their frustration.

Many customers were demanding refunds or credits for the outage.

Cricket has not said when customers should expect service to be restored.

Cricket Wireless says it is typically available in 1,000 American cities, and its products are sold in 3,200 retail locations across the nation.

Cricket Wireless uses AT&T carriers to provide service. Even though AT&T towers are used for Cricket service, AT&T customers are not experiencing the same type of outage Cricket users have Friday evening.
