Temple Terrace police continue the search for two armed gunmen that shot a man outside his home late Sunday night.

The victim’s wife called 911 to report her husband had been shot at their home on the 5200 block of Serena Drive.

“He is bleeding everywhere,” the unidentified woman told the 911 operator.  “My husband was bringing groceries down from the car… and he got shot.”

The victim then took the phone from his wife and said he had been shot on one of his fingers.  Another bullet grazed his head, and he described a flesh wound in one of his arms.

“It happened all too fast I am OK,” the man told the dispatcher.

Temple Terrace police said the suspects will be charged with armed robbery and attempted murder.  The victim said he feared for his life so when he had the chance he fought back.

“One of them grabbed me by the arm, pointed a gun at my face and said ‘don't say anything’ and  started ushering me away from the house,” the victim said.  “Since the door was open to my house, I did not want to leave it like that that’s when I grabbed that guy.  As soon as I could, I grabbed his gun so he couldn't shoot me and started rushing him away from the house.  And when he got free I drew and started firing.”

The victim fired seven rounds out of his revolver.  The armed gunmen returned 4 to 5 shots.  One bullet hit a neighbors house across the street and got lodged in her window frame.

“You never think that it would happen to you or near you,” Jessica Meyer said.  “So, I mean, it is scary.”

The suspects then fled westbound on foot. The victim sustained minor injuries. It is unknown whether the suspects were injured.
