Fatal traffic crash shuts down WB I-4 lanes near Davenport for hours

A deadly traffic crash shut down all westbound lanes on Interstate 4 at Mile Marker 58 near Davenport for nearly five hours Sunday morning.

The traffic crash claimed the life of a 24-year-old man from Windermere,the Florida Highway Patrol spokesman said. His name is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2008 Ford F250 truck was traveling east on I-4 near Milepost 58 about 6:17 a.m. Sunday. The Ford truck attempted to pass a 2008 four-door Hyundai and sideswiped it, a FHP news release states.

Upon impact, the Ford careened into the median and overturned, ejecting the driver. The unidentified man sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Motorists traveling west on I-4 were advised to use County Road 532 exit. Go right on Osceola Polk Line Road, turn left on Champions Gate Blvd., right on Ronald Reagan Parkway then left on U.S. 27.

The interstate reopened at 11:05 a.m. Sunday.
