Two people died and two others were injured Saturday night in a traffic accident in Citrus County that sent some victims spilling onto the road after both vehicles overturned, authorities said.

The accident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. on State Road 44 west of County Road 491, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 2006 Jeep SUV driven by Trevor Williams Clemente, 22, of Citrus Springs was headed eastbound on S.R. 44. For unknown reasons, the SUV crossed into the median of S.R. 44 and overturned into the westbound lanes.

Clemente was ejected from the SUV.

John McKenzie, 53, of Crystal River, who was driving a 2013 Trump motorcycle, overturned his bike in an attempt to avoid the accident, a Highway Patrol news release states. The passenger on the bike, Brenda L. McKenzie, 46, also of Crystal River, was struck by the motorcycle.

Clemente and Brenda L. McKenzie died at the scene of the accident.

John McKenzie and Eric Selke, 22, of Citrus Springs, who was a passenger in the SUV, were injured and taken to separate hospitals in serious condition. Selke went to Shands Hospital, and John McKenzie was transported to Bayonet Point Hospital.
