Two people died in a serious crash at US 301 and 63rd Ave. E near Bradenton in Manatee County.

A car and a semi were involved in the crash. According to FHP, the car did not stop at a red light as the semi was making a left turn at a green arrow. The car hit the side of the semi's trailer and ended up going all the way underneath the trailer, eventually crossing the center median and careening off the road.

The FHP report identified the two people in the car as 29-year-old Kenneth Jackson of Palmetto and 25-year-old Daniel Carter of Sarasota. Carter was wearing his seatbelt; Jackson was not.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

Alcohol was not listed as a factor in the crash, and there was no indication by FHP of how fast the car was traveling at the time of the crash.

Both northbound and southbound US 301 were closed after the crash for over an hour during the morning commute, but were eventually reopened.
