Survey: Ybor residents looking for more sense of security

Posted

The Ybor City Development Corporation surveyed seven-hundred people who either live or work in Ybor City. The three biggest items residents were looking for were sense of personal security, walkability and things to do.

"We found that a majority of our residents and employees were very satisfied with their experience here," said YCDC Manager Courtney Orr.

Orr said the city already has a plan to help residence feel more secure in their environment.

1. Increased lighting in garage and parks
2. More officers patrolling during evening hours
3. Continued use of a homeless liaison officer

Stone Soup Company owner, Ilya Goldberg said he would like to see the security measures put into place.

"If there was more of that we would be able to address the homeless issue a bit better," said Goldberg.

The survey also showed that residents were very satisfied with the amount of events that occur in the Ybor City district, but residents would like to see a grocery store built in the district.
