UPDATE: The Sunshine Skyway Bridge reopened at noon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The Sunshine Skyway Bridge has been closed due to high winds, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The bridge connecting Pinellas and Manatee counties over Tampa Bay closed at 8:48 a.m. Saturday. At the time, wind speed were averaging 40 to 50 miles per hour and gusting over 50 miles per hour.
Motorists should avoid the bridge and seek alternate routes for now.
