9AM UPDATE | State troopers reopen the northbound lanes of I-75 in Sarasota County following a fiery, fatal wrong way traffic crash with at least two dead.

ORIGINAL STORY | The Florida Highway Patrol has closed all northbound lanes of Interstate 75 at the Fruitville Road exit in Sarasota County following a fatal traffic crash, authorities said.

State troopers are investigating a fiery, two-vehicle traffic crash on NB I-75 at Mile Marker 212. Authorities said the crash involved a wrong-way driver. Two people are believed to be dead, authorities said.

The accident occurred shortly before 4 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol website.

Two Sarasota County sheriff's deputies were treated for smoke inhalation as a precaution, according to a Sarasota County Sheriff's Office tweet.

No other details have been released about the traffic crash.

All southbound I-75 are open, Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Gregory Bueno said in a media release.

An ABC Action News team is en route to the accident scene.
