Silver Alert issued for missing 85-year-old St. Petersburg woman

UPDATE | St. Petersburg police cancel Silver Alert after 85-year-old Gertrude Morin returns home safe, authorities said.

ORIGINAL STORY | An 85-year-old woman who police said has dementia is missing. 

Gertrude Morin was last seen behind the wheel of her 2006 gold Chrysler, 4-door sedan, St. Petersburg police spokeswoman Yolanda Fernandez said in a release. The car was heading west in the 2000 block of 83rd Avenue North in St. Pete.

Morin is described as white, 5-foot-5 and weighs 135 pounds. She has gray hair and brown eyes. Police said she may be confused because of dementia, a mental illness with symptoms that include memory loss. 

Police are asking anyone with information about Morin's whereabouts or the Chrysler, with Florida tag number ZOFNI, to contact the St. Petersburg Police Department at (727) 893-7780.
