Shooting victim tells authorities he was shot by two masked men

UPDATE 11:40 a.m. | Authorities identified the man shot at Park Villas Mobile Home Park on 52nd Avenue North in Pinellas County early Saturday morning as 31-year-old Andrew D. Whitfield.

He was treated for his injuries at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg and released, a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office report said. 

Whitfield told sheriff's deputies he was approached by two masked men and was shot in the leg. 

Deputies investigating the incident found illegal drugs in the immediate vicinity of the shooting, said the report issued by Pinellas County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Spencer Gross.

The masked men were described as one with a heavy build and the other with a thin build, with masks and handguns. One man was wearing a red or orange hoodie.

ORIGINAL STORY | A man told authorities he was shot by two unidentified masked men at the Park Villas Mobile Home Park on 52nd Avenue North early Saturday.

Pinellas County sheriff's deputies responded to a call of a reported shooting at the mobile home park at 2782 52nd Ave. N. in unincorporated St. Petersburg shortly before 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

The man, whose names was not released, told deputies two masked men approached him and shot at him, hitting him in the leg, a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office report said. The masked men ran away eastbound and may have gotten into a vehicle and drove away.

The victim was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
