Sept. 18 Rescues in Action: Meet Maya

Posted

Maya was found running down a road in the Redlands, an unincorporated area of Miami-Dade County where people dump unwanted pets and other items.

She was one of the lucky ones.

Maya was rescued by friends of Heidi's Legacy, a dog rescue which has been caring for the friendly 1-year-old German Shepherd.

Maya also has faced other challenges.

Veterinarians who examined Maya after she was rescued discovered she is almost blind. They determined she must have been near an intense fire at some point, which severely damaged her eyes.

The young German Shepherd, who has a beautiful black and tan coat, has adjusted well to her blindness. She walks well on a leash.

Maya likes to play with other dogs. She also is good with children.
