Sarasota deputies search for man who robbed Chase bank branch

A man who said he had a weapon robbed a Chase bank branch in Sarasota Friday evening, officials said. 

Sometime before 6 p.m. Friday a man wearing a dark-colored hat walked into the bank at 5341 Fruitville Road, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said. Witnesses told sheriff's deputies the bandit indicated he had a weapon and demanded money. 

After the incident, the man left the bank and was last seen walking west on Fruitville Road. 

Sheriff's deputies were called to the Chase bank at about 5:55 p.m. and began an investigation. 

The bank robber was described as a black man, possibly in his mid-50s and was about 5'8" tall. In addition to a dark-colored hat, the man was dressed in a long-sleeve red jacket and blue jeans.
