A woman died in an alcohol-related scooter accident on MLK Street South early Sunday morning, St. Petersburg police said.
Julia Jean Smith, 29, was riding a white 2017 Taizhou Zhongneng scooter south on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, a St. Petersburg Police Department news release said.
For an unknown reason, the scooter drifted toward the east side of the street and struck a curb just north of Eighth Avenue South.
Smith lost control of the vehicle and was thrown to the ground.
She was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where she was later pronounced dead.
