Westbound lanes on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard in Clearwater were closed for nearly four hours early Sunday while police investigated a fatal pedestrian accident.
A 57-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was hit by a 2005 BMW at Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. and Duncan Ave. about 4:30 a.m. Sunday. The incident occurred in the westbound lanes of Gulf-to-Bay.
Konstantinos Gkarevelis, 30, of Clearwater, was the driver of the BMW, according to the Clearwater Police Department. The BMW was traveling west on Gulf-to-Bay in the curb lane just west of Duncan Ave. when the pedestrian entered the path of the car.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was reopened to westbound traffic at about 8 a.m. Sunday.
