A man, who state troopers said was driving drunk, was also charged with a hit and run involving a Pasco County sheriff's cruiser, officials said.

Jeffrey Alan Stern was arrested for driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.

The incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Friday on State Road 54 near Sunlake Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

A 2016 Hyundai Sonata driven by Stern was traveling west on S.R. 54 in the outside lane west of Sunlake Blvd.

The marked Pasco County sheriff's cruiser with emergency lights activated was parked on the westbound shoulder of the road. The deputy was attending to a disabled vehicle.

The Sonota failed to move over as required by law , left the lane and sideswiped the patrol car. The Sonota didn't stop and continued westbound.

The deputy, whose patrol car had been hit, conducted a traffic stop on the Sonota.
