DOVER, Fla. — A Hillsborough County man said he found his car destroyed after he left it parked on a street on Saturday night.

Someone rammed into his vehicle and took off.

Genaldo Mercado was visiting a friend on Rutherford Drive in Dover when he heard a loud boom outside.

"The next door neighbors also came outside and we just hear her saying that pickup truck just hit that car, they just hit that car. We looked around and said what car? We look to the right and we see this," said Mercado.

Mercado showed ABC Action News the damage to his car. The car's tail light is busted. His back bumper is destroyed.

Mercado said he received the car as a gift on Christmas Eve.

"Not even five days later, it's pretty much smashed to the point it's not drive-able anymore. It definitely frustrated me beyond belief," said Mercado.

Mercado said it's frustrating the driver who hit his car did not own up to his or her mistake.

"I don't get the point of running. It's something you did, you know you did it and your vehicle obviously has the same matching damage as mine," said Mercado.

Mercado called the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Deputies filed a crash report.

Mercado said he found pieces of the vehicle that hit him. He believes it was a blue pickup truck.

Deputies are searching for the driver who left the scene of a crash.
