A new elementary school is set to open Monday, easing congestion in overcrowded schools in Wesley Chapel.

Wiregrass Elementary took a little more than a year to build. But its construction helps with overcrowding issues at the neighboring Denham Oaks, Seven Oaks, Double Branch and Sand Pine Elementary Schools.

Wiregrass Elementary is opening with 500 kids registered. However, the school's capacity is about 800 students. But this comes as several new neighborhoods are under construction.

One is located right across the street from the new schools, bringing with it the possibility of hundreds of more students zoned.

Principal Steve Williams already has a plan to cope with more students over the next few years. He has an entire area of the property reserved for portable classrooms as the need arises. He also has several open classrooms in anticipation of more students.

Wiregrass Elementary is also closed to school choice.

Pasco Schools first day is Monday, August. 15th.
