A 13-year-old boy riding a big wheel tricycle in Ruskin was hit and killed Saturday night, authorities said.

About 8:40 p.m. Saturday, Messiah Hector, 13, of Ruskin was riding the three-wheeler on 21st Street Southeast north of Third Avenue Southeast, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

At the time Keith Silva was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am northbound on 21st St. SE.

Silva was unable to see the 13-year-old in the road and hit him, deputies said in a statement. Messiah was not wearing a helmet. He died at the scene.

Silva told deputies the accident was the results of a lack of street lighting, according to deputies.

No further information was available.
