A 53-year-old man was struck and died after he attempted to cross Sunset Point Road in Clearwater Saturday night, officials said.
Frank McGuire of Clearwater was taken to Mease Dunedin Hospital for treatment shortly after the accident, which occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday, the Clearwater Police Department said. He died at the hospital about 8:30 p.m.
Jason Barringer, the driver of a 2007 Honda CRV, told police officers he was heading west on Sunset Point Road just west of Hercules Avenue in the curbside lane when his vehicle struck McGuire, according to the report.
Barringer stopped his vehicle nearby. He was interviewed on the scene when emergency personnel arrived.
The investigation continues.
