A 33-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of a 2-month-old baby, St. Petersburg police said.
Jeremiah Dillard faces a first degree murder charge following the death of a 54-day-old baby in September.
The unresponsive baby was taken to a local hospital about 2:30 a.m. Sept. 24 and was pronounced dead about an hour later.
The Pinellas County Medical Examiner's Office subsequently ruled the child's death a homicide, indicating the cause of death was aphyxia with contributing conditions of blunt trauma and malnutrition.
St. Petersburg Police Department Major Crimes Unit detectives were able to establish probable cause for Dillard's arrest.
He was booked Saturday into the Pinellas County Jail. His first court appearance also was held Saturday.
