A 22-year-old man was arrested Thursday for sexually assaulting a girl under 12 during a pool outing, officials said.
Jose Fernando Santiago Pena was being held in the Hillsborough County Jail early Friday morning. He was set to appear before a judge for a first appearance in Hillsborough County Court at 8:30 a.m.
Santiago Pena is accused of grabbing the victim while she swam in a pool Aug. 15, a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office release states. He started rubbing up against her.
The girl managed to free herself and swam away.
That is when Santiago Pena approached the girl and molested her, the release states.
A witness saw the incident and reported it.
Santiago Pena said he committed to the offense, according to the sheriff's office.
