Jeff Vinik's new company is taking over operations of the USF Sun Dome

Deal aims to bring more events to USF campus

Bigger and better concerts and events could soon be coming to the University of South Florida.

USF is teaming up with Tampa Bay Lightning NFL franchise owner Jeff Vinik in hopes of replicating the success he's had booking events at Amalie Arena.

Vinik created a new company just for this kind of expansion: the Tampa Bay Entertainment Properties LLC, which has signed a 5 year agreement with the school to "oversee the day-to-day and strategic operations" of the Sun Dome beginning in July.

"TBEP and USF working together to give the fans a better experience, the students a complete complete environment for which to enjoy games and concerts in," said Vinik at a media event at the Sun Dome on Monday to explain the new partnership.

The venue will target events designed for 3,000-9,000 seats, slightly smaller than Amalie Arena's target audience.

The new arrangement means the team recently responsible for booking entertainers like Paul McCartney will now also be booking events for the USF Sun Dome.
