The Tampa Bay Area now ranks third in the nation in house flipping.

That's 1 in every 10 homes sold, according to a new report out this week by RealtyTrac.

It's a trend that makes it difficult for first-time home-buyers, like many military veterans, to buy a home.

To help those veterans and their families deal with the challenging real estate market, and get access to the benefits they've earned, the local chapter of a non-profit group, Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals, is holding a "Veterans Housing Summit" this Saturday, September 17 in Clearwater.

The Summit will provide veterans information about how to get money from Veterans Affairs, as well as provide free financial counseling, credit counseling, go over how to get down payment assistance, and get pre-approved for a loan.

The event is at the Holiday Inn at 3535 Ulmerton Road in Clearwater from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
